A patio can be any number of shapes or designs, but when uncertain, it's most likely better to feature a square or rectangular patio. Of course, a circular one is feasible if you are confident in your ability as a brick cutter. Yes, you can pay someone else to do that but the purpose of this article is to have you learn by doing. That said, circular patios can be purchased for a reasonable price from most lawn and garden stores including Home Depot and Lowe's.
For lighting, you can use fairy lights or lamps. You want it to be gentle soft lighting, not enough to scare the night away. Installing too many lights will prevent you from fully appreciating the gently moonlight and stars. As always, stick to the keep it simple motto of creating pleasant patios. A roof or covering can be very welcome, especially for a patio that is a little way away from the main house. It will give you shelter so that you can sit outside on the hottest summer day, or enjoy the sounds of a summer rain storm without getting wet.
